A brief is needed not only by the photographer. It is essential for all project participants so that the idea of “You’re the professional — just make it look good” means the same thing to everyone.

The absence of a brief is not creative freedom, but freedom for dissatisfaction.

To ensure the result matches your expectations as closely as possible, I’ve prepared a six-point checklist covering only the key questions. Please send your answers by email. In this case, clarifying details by phone will be far more productive and will save both your time and mine.

General Information

Briefly describe the project: who you are, what you do, and what goal you want to achieve with the photoshoot. Provide contact details: company name, contact person, phone number, e-mail, website, social media.

Image Usage Format

Specify where and how the images will be used — this affects the shooting style, composition, and technical requirements. Possible options: website, marketplaces, social media, print materials.

Product Description for the Shoot

Describe the product and the shooting objectives: which features and details should be emphasized in the images. Include: product name, quantity, material, texture and dimensions, specific characteristics (gloss, transparency, reflections, etc.), whether packaging is available and if it should be included in the frame.

References

Share visual references that match your preferred style and mood — this helps to better understand your expectations. Include: links to examples, brands you like, what exactly appeals to you, preferred background (white, colored, textured, transparent).

Timeline

Specify the desired project timeline. Important: shooting date and final delivery date.

Additional Comments

Add any information that may affect the final result. For example: important details, limitations, preferences, need for props and their description.

Based on your explanatory note, I will be able to propose a shooting concept, calculate the cost, and prepare a technical brief for the photo shoot.
